I finally finished up my entry for Hero Complex Gallery's 30th Anniversary Zelda show that opens this Friday, February 26th at 2020 S Robertson Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90034
My piece is inspired by the contrast between the light and the dark worlds in Twilight princess. I really enjoyed the darker storyline and muted tones throughout the game. I also LOVE how many intricate patterns and symbols show up in the game. Because of that and my experience creating apparel graphics, I decided to try to incorporate both illustrations and pattern design.
Overall I’m very pleased with how this turned out. I used multiple gradient layers and clipping masks to achieve way more colors that I actually started with. I’ll be posting a process video (hopefully this week) and you’ll get to see how I did the whole thing. I’m going to try this method again in the future but I’ll be sure to streamline this process a bit better on the next one. I didn’t really plan on coloring it this way, but I experimented with one or two and really liked the result.
